abitare all'Italiana – from the interior to the city

Milan - colour, material, light, shape, and expression of a specific way of life in this incredibly lively city. Its urban landscape, redesigned mainly in the 1950s and 1960s under the influence of exceptional architects, became an icon of Italy. Today Milan stands for modern, ambitious, and metropolitan life in picturesque landscapes as well as for the romance of everyday life. This very quaint urban flair was captured and translated into the design of a residential building in a developing area of Vienna. Together, all the participants in the studio had their own lot that led to a vivid neighborhood with various buildings.

At the 'Nordbahnhofviertel' in Vienna the residential building is located in the middle of an urban development area right in front of a historical quartier. Former garages for locomotives at the same location, which were made of brick stones, place the area in a historical context. The red-colored concrete creates an analogy and makes the unique-looking building a final part of the ensemble. Pietra Rossa ['red stone'] – red-colored concrete and facade ornamentation unites a group of unique apartments behind it. Generous openings build up a connection between life inside and the city life outside. Large room-dividing furniture and floor-to-ceiling sliding elements offer the possibility of an individual lifestyle and reflect the diversity of its residents who identify themselves in this process own way of living.
